This sale is for a pre-paid SIM card with 27 Euro credit (about $42). We used this SIM card during a trip to Italy last September.  This is a 'TIM' brand SIM card which is the largest cell phone network in Italy. The card is valid until September 24, 2008.  The card can be recharged with more minutes using a TIM RicarICard (available at tobacco shops and cell phone shops in Italy) and will then be valid for 1 year from the recharge date. This SIM card is ready to go, with an active Italian phone number that you can provide to relatives who may need to contact you. The card must be inserted in an unlocked Tri Band or Quad band GSM cellular phone. A cell phone is definitely the way to go during your trip to Italy. Reception is excellent with the TIM network, and all incoming calls are free (i.e., they don't use any of your minutes).  I'm not sure of current rates for outgoing calls, but I think calls to Italy phones were about .15 Euro/min and calls to the US from Italy were 0.50 Euro/min.
