The Jensen Interceptor Series lll (often called "Gentleman's Express") was a sport GT-class car hand-built in the United Kingdom by Jensen Motors between 1966 and 1976, the body designed by an outside firm, Carrozzeria Touring of Italy that was an Automobile coach builder famous for it's Superleggera (Super Light) design. They also did design work for; Aston Martin, Alfa Romeo, BMW, Lamborghini, and many others.
The engine is a Chrysler V-8 440ci 4-bbl (7212cc) with TorqueFlite automatic transmissions driving the rear wheels through a limited slip differential in a conventional Salisbury rear axle. They are some of the most powerful car ever to have been made by Jensen. A convertible with powered soft top was introduced in 1974 mainly intended for the American market but also sold in Europe. 267 convertibles were made.
These cars were large by Euro standards, being just 6 inches shorter than a Camaro. The 2+2 configuration meant that front seat passengers were enveloped in the relative splendor of leather-covered bucket seats, wood trim and wool carpeting, while the rear-seat passengers found themselves considerably more confined.
The Jensen Interceptor came from a three part marriage of British built, Italian design and American Mopar Muscle. What you end up with is a car with striking good looks, great road manners, comfort and incredible tire spinning power, Nothing is better than hearing the sound of the 440 under full throttle. It will put a smile on your face!
The car you see here is not perfect; it looks great, drives even better. The paint is a 8 out of 10. It needs a radio, (I was unsure of what to put in it. A new one, a classic am/fm, I even considered an 8 track am/fm). This is a British car that will need attention from time to time. It has ac that I have never used, it is still all hooked up but I sure will need at least some Freon installed.
Why buy her? What else can you buy, that is this rare, and this much fun to drive? If you take her to a car show, you will be the only one there with one. How many of the 267 are left? In the whole world maybe150. In the USA maybe 110, in the state you live in maybe 3-5. It’s a good bet you will be the only one around your town with a Convertible.
Even if there is another one, I bet this one runs better, because the engine was rebuilt with performance in mind, it even has 3 in exhaust pipes.
